“Layered and emotive paintings combine the exploration of identity, belonging, and humanity. The nonrepresentational work reflects the experience of finding internal understanding and openness in a contemporary queer community. The ambiguous compositions, which intentionally leave much to viewer interpretation, are complemented by specifics in writing paired with the pieces that allow for additional focus on a moment’s singular identity and tender details. Coded emotional elements in combination with careful attention to the titles support viewers in connecting the nonrepresentational composition to queer experience. The goal is a contemplative and visceral viewer reaction, and a shared experience of familiarity.”
