Kirsta Benedetti

Over the past ten years I have been exploring abstract painting. Without a reference point or image I begin with a shape or a brush stroke and build layers slowly, adding or taking away, until a balance in composition is achieved.

As my abstract style evolves I find myself more and more drawn to the impact made by a few large brush strokes--the lines of the bristles being highlighted by thinning the paint. Using a limited palette helps me to focus completely on line and texture, and I am always inspired by a bold black shape on white.
